The Untouchables are a pioneering mod band from Los Angeles, widely recognized for helping introduce and shape the sound of ska in the United States during the early 1980s. They originally formed as a group of mod friends in a scooter crew who frequented the ON Klub in Silverlake, CA, where they began performing regularly and quickly became a

staple of the scene. Their explosive live shows and genre-blending sound—mixing soul, ska, punk, R&B, and 2 Tone influences—made them a Southern California favorite, soon earning them a house band slot at The Roxy on the Sunset Strip and appearances at clubs throughout the region. Closely tied to the L.A. punk and post-punk scenes, they shared stages with Oingo Boingo, Bow Wow Wow, Fishbone, No Doubt, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, while touring with reggae icons like UB40 and Black Uhuru, and performing at large-scale festivals throughout Europe and the United States. Founding members Clyde Grimes, Jerry Miller, and Chuck Askerneese led the band to cult status with tracks like “Free Yourself,” “I Spy for the FBI,” “What’s Gone Wrong,” and “Wild Child.” After signing with their dream label, Stiff Records, they recorded with The Specials’ Jerry Dammers and appeared in cult films including Repo Man, The Party Animal, Surf II, No Man’s Land, and Beyond Blazing Boards.

Today, original frontman Chuck Askerneese leads a powerhouse lineup of veteran ska and punk musicians from both coasts. The band continues to headline shows and appear at major events like Supernova Ska Festival, No Values Festival, and Lost 80’s Live—sharing the stage with acts like The Selecter, Bad Manners, The English Beat, Wang Chung, Sublime, Suicidal Tendencies, and Fishbone, as well as supporting such acts as Madness, Oingo Boingo Former Members, and more. The Untouchables are currently recording new material for fans old and new, proudly carrying forward the legacy of one of America’s most influential and enduring ska bands.
